We can even boast of having award-winning central vacuum service as we were named New Dealer of the Year by Beam Built-in Vacuums back in 1994!
How do Central Vacuum Systems Work?
Central vacuums aren’t just more convenient than a portable vacuum, they are more powerful! Homeowners find them to be the most efficient way to thoroughly clean their carpets.
These whole house systems allow you to remove dirt and debris from rooms around your house on different levels thanks to tubing located in the walls. This tubing is connected to a receptacle in another location such as a basement or garage. The tubing can be run through your attic, basement, or cold air returns.
With the power unit being permanently located in an out-of-the-way location, you only have to lift and move around a much more light and manageable hose and power brush unit. The dirt you vacuum up will be carried through the tubes, behind your walls, and carried to the main receptacle that is out of the way of your living spaces.
That receptacle is usually either a canister or a bag. That receptacle will continue collecting the dirt and debris that you vacuum up. You will need to empty it typically about once every three months. The other maintenance task these units will require is making sure the filters get changed regularly.
Central Vacuum Installation
The key to a whole house vacuum system is the installation. A series of inlets are built into several areas throughout the home in convenient locations. These inlets are where you will plug in the lightweight hose. You simply move the hose from one inlet to another inlet.
A homeowner will be involved in deciding the most convenient place for these inlets as well as where the power unit will be located, whether it be a basement or other storage area.
What Kind of Central Vacuum To Get
There are different types of central vacuum cleaner systems. What kind you get depends greatly on the size of your home. A home with less than 5,000 square feet requires a power unit of 20 amps or less. A larger home will need a more powerful unit.
Getting a bag or a canister receptacle. This is mostly just a personal preference.
The end of your hose will have a power brush unit. This can be an electrical power brush or an air-driven one. The air-driven power brushes typically cost less to install as they do not require any additional electrical wiring. You will also get to choose what sort of attachments and accessories you want for your system, such as upholstery attachments or automatic dustpans.
