50 YEARS OF PROVEN QUALITY
2021 is a momentous year for everyone at Cheney Door Company. This year marks our 50th year of providing excellent quality garage door service and more in Kansas.
It has been a half century of growth and adapting to change. But being a local family-owned company, we kept to our commitment of focusing on quality product and service and are proud to celebrate this great accomplishment. Cheney Door Company is proud to be the largest, most quality and service oriented overhead door company in the state of Kansas.
CHENEY DOOR COMPANY TIMELINE
1971: Our story starts in 1971 when Keith Bomholt first opened the business. Back then, the company was operated out of the garage in his home in Cheney, Kansas. We eventually moved the company to Wichita at 145 Pattie St. just south of Douglas.
1980: Cheney Door opened a new location to serve another large Kansas population with our garage door services and more. We opened our Hutchison location first at 818 W. 2nd St. We later relocated our Hutchinson operation to its current location at 2701 E. 17th Ave.
1989: Cheney Door Company merged with Graf Garage Doors. This merger provided us with the opportunity to expand the products and services we provide. It also allowed us to fulfill the growing demands of area builders.
1994: Demand for our work grew and so we found ourselves needing a larger space to serve all our clients. We found that space not far away. In 1994, Cheney Door Company moved from its Pattie St. location just two blocks east, to our current location at 136 Lulu St.
The new 18,600-square-foot site includes a showroom that displays Raynor and Wayne-Dalton garage doors and Beam built-in vacuum systems. This location continues to serve as our Wichita headquarters.
1994: Cheney Door Co. was honored as New Dealer of the Year for 1993 by Beam Built-In Vacuums, which makes central cleaning systems for the home.
1995: Cheney Door received theInternational Door Association’s Joe Caputo Dealer of the Year Award. This award is given to dealers who demonstrate high integrity, be quality oriented, display community involvement and serve as a model door dealer company.
1998: Our company was honored for Door Dealer Excellence in the areas of business management, technical knowledge, and safety awareness by the Institute of Door Dealer Education & Accreditation.
1999: Cheney Door was given the Winner’s Circle Award by Raynor’s Garage Doors for superior sales achievement. Cheney was ranked as one of the top 50 Raynor distributors worldwide.
2000: Company President Keith Bomholt received the seal of approval from the International Door Association to become the only Accredited Door Dealer in Kansas.
2001: Much more than garage door service: Cheney Door expands its services by providing installation of entry doors.
2003: Keith Bomholt received the International Door Association’s Director Service Award for his elected service in the industry organization.
2005: The Salina location is opened at 448 N. Front St.
2007: Cheney Door expands its services by providing installation of gates.
2008: Cheney Door Company received the Top 20 of 2007 Award from BEAM Central Vacuum Systems.
2012: Cheney Door begins providing audio video services.
2015: Cheney Door expands its commercial door services by providing installation of automatic doors.
2016: Keith Bomholt received the Jerry R. Reynolds Volunteer Leadership Award from the International Door Association.
Making a Splash Celebrating our Wichita Community
Cheney Door Company has been a big supporter of the communities we provide service to. Having been in Wichita for most of our long legacy, we got involved in a lot of different ways here in the ICT.
One of the favorite community activities our Cheney team looked forward to every year were the Bathtub Races of the Wichita River Festival. We jumped in feet first and took this friendly competition quite seriously. Over the years we were fortunately to participate, we won many awards in both the Men’s and Women’s Bathtub Race classes. We even broke speed records!
In 1998, Cheney Door Company sets a new speed record in the Wichita River Festival Bathtub Race – covering the 275-yeard course in only 1 minute 11:73 seconds!
